The Costa Rican Colón is the national currency. CRC500 is approximately one Canadian dollar. 
​Credit cards are widely accepted and there are bank machines dispensing colones as well.
Request to pay in colones when using your credit card to secure the best rates. For Canadians, this helps to avoid the varied USD exchange rates that you may encounter from place to place.

It's always good to have cash when you travel and using the local currency colones will often get you the best price. Cash is ideal for smaller purchases like tips, taxis and beachside drinks.
If you don't have colones, USD is also widely accepted and often the price quoted in and around Surfside Potrero.

Tipping is included in most restaurant bills, a 10% gratuity in addition to the 13% sales tax. Feel free to add to this tip if you choose.
